I have a literary agent!
I have some book news: I’ve signed with the amazing Hannah Schofield at LBA Literary Agency!
She’ll be representing my first novel, BROODING. It’s all so exciting and I still feel shocked! And thrilled, of course.
I spent last summer and autumn writing BROODING (including some squinty stints on my phone while sunbathing) and winter editing it until it made sense. Over Christmas, I researched dream agents and Hannah was at the top of my list. I couldn’t believe it when she replied within an hour of me querying her - and when she offered representation a week later I was over the moon!
I read so many blogs and articles while investigating the minefield of the agent querying process and found them really useful. Here are some of my favourites - I hope they might help you too!
Author Phoebe Morgan - How to get a literary agent
Agent Sarah Hornsley’s YouTube series on how to draft the perfect query
Jericho Writers - This site is full of useful advice like the guide on How to write a synopsis and I signed up to its free trial of the AgentMatch service which has a comprehensive database of agents, interviews on what they’re looking for, and details on whether they’re open or closed to submissions
The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook - The paperback is full of amazing advice on what agents are looking for and how to engage them. It has up to date contact details of all UK agencies! They have a brilliant online series of interviews with agents as well, like this one
The only thing I can add to anything linked above is to trust your gut. I went with the agent who made it very clear she loved my book and would be a true champion.
Here’s to the next stages of BROODING!
